A recipient of the Armstrong-Lepeska Science Marketing Scholarship, sponsored by isoSolutions, was selected by Langara College to address scholarship donors on behalf of students at the Donor Recognition event.
Mr. Hazhir Goodarznia was awarded the scholarship last March as a science student who completed a course in marketing. The scholarship highlights the importance of marketing and sales of high-technology, scientifically-intensive products. It honors Brian Armstrong and Will Lepeska, who were pioneers in the new field of nuclear medicine and who, as scientists, focused their efforts on the marketing and sales of medical products. They played a critical role in bringing medical developments from the laboratory to the public and to common usage.
Mr. Hazhir Goodarznia is a first year student at Langara College studying computer science with co-op, planning to transfer into third year UBC (University of British Columbia) in 2018 to specialize in machine learning and artificial intelligence to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. After obtaining his B.Sc., he plans to join a startup or to create his own, or to work for a small, innovating company.
In his presentation, he related the story of his parents fleeing a revolution in their home country and coming to live in Canada, where Hazhir and his sister were born. His parents faced difficult challenges and made significant sacrifices for their children.
He compared the selfless actions of his parents to the donors who contribute financially to the education of students. As he concluded, “[The donors] saw something in us that compelled them to want to help [we] students propel and succeed in our futures. So really, this event is a celebration of the donors’ selflessness, in addition to our parents and instructors.”
